Prospecciones acuáticas Underwater prospection 2001

In July 2001, we decided to find out the condition of the anchors found in 1994 and to continue with the prospection work in Sanitja harbour, Cap de Cavalleria, and Tirant Bay, with the goal to identify shipwrecks, amphoras, or structures corresponding to the port area of the Roman city of Sanisera.

With this purpose in mind, we employed sonar prospection equipment and divers to visually search the areas where the lateral sonar could not reach. As a result, we found two very interesting areas with two potential Roman shipwrecks, one of them with oil amphoras from Hispania, and the other one coming from North Africa.
