THE ECOMUSEUM> Chronology
• 1992: Foundation of the not for profit association “Sa Nitja. Gestión del patrimonio mediterráneo” for the preservation, knowledge and research of the Spanish archaeological heritage.
• 1993 : The Fundació “La Caixa” awards a prize to the association “Sa Nitja” for the revalorization of the Roman city of Sanisera (Sanitja harbour – Fornells), for a value of 24,000 €.
• 1993-1995 : Archaeological research starts in the Sanitja harbour with land and underwater prospections using different techniques and methodologies
• 1996-1998 : Archaeological excavations begin uncovering the remains of a Roman military camp contemporary to the Roman conquest of the Balearics by the General Quintus Caecillius Metellus “Balearicus” (123 B.C. – 121 B.C.)
• 1997 : Inauguration of the exhibition “Un mundo por descubrir” (“A World to Discover”) with the aim to share the archaeological value of Sanitja harbour and the cultural and natural heritage of the northernmost area of Minorca . Initiative sponsored by the European Union programme “Leader II” with 49,310 €. The associaiton “Sa Nitja” contributed 101,000 € for the opening of the Ecomuseum de Cap de Cavalleria.
• 1998 : Archaeological prospections in the territory of Cavalleria to investigate the type, distribution and characteristics of the Talayotic and Roman population in the area.
• 1999 : The Spanish Cultural Tourism programme “Plan Futures” grants the association “Sa Nitja”, 48,000 € for the creation of a lighthouse museum in the Lighthouse of Cap de Cavalleria.
• 1999 - 2004 : Study of the archaeological materials and the excavation results of the 1996-98 campaigns, with the final preparation of a memory describing the archaeological research.
• 2000 : Publication of two books about lighthouses to invigorate that part of the architectonical heritage.
• 2001 : Underwater prospection work is re-started in the Sanitja harbour, Cap de Cavalleria and Cala Tirant.
• 2004:
2004: The campaigns of excavation of the Roman military camp with a new project by means of international courses directed to people of any country of the world are started again. The archaeological project will finalize at the end of year 2007.
• 2005:
The program "Culture 2000" approves a project European in which the organization "Sa Nitja" participates to remodelar the exhibition of the seat of the ecomuseum and to extend its cultural supply. The new exhibition "Discovers the north " it has been subsidized with 50000 euros of the European Union. On the other hand the association "Sa Nitja" has destined other 50000 euros to complete the economic cost of this project. Also other institutions like the Balearic Govern and 30 private companies of Menorca have collaborated economically. The Ecomuseum has been able from its foundation to consolidate like one of products in the matter of more excellent cultural tourism of Menorca and to become o'clock of interest for the local educative sector.

. 2006: Continuation of the excavation of the military fort at a steady pace, amplifying the calendar of activities staring in June until October. As an interesting note, the defense system of the military fort was discovered which its excavation will be the objective of 2007.
. 2007: The main object was to excavate the perimeter of the defense of the military fort so that we would be able know the exact dimensions of the site and the role it played in the Roman conquest of the Balearic Islands.
