Menorca is the northern most island of the Balearic island chain, and the second largest, following Mallorca, with an surface area of 702 km². Menorca 's landscape is mainly flat with gradual rolling hills, the largest being El Toro 358 meters, followed by S'Enclusa 275 meter, and Santa Águeda 264 meters. Menorca is situated about 400 kms. off the northern coast of Africa , France and Spain and 600 kms. from the island Córcega, placing Menorca in the center of the Western Mediterranean Sea .

The Ecomuseo de Cavalleria is located in the northern most part if the island, known as the Tramontana (northern wind) coast. The spectacular Cape of Cavalleria forms a natural rock wall made of limestone, that rises to a height of 90 meter above sea level. The Cape de Cavalleria is the northern most cape of the Balearic islands .

Tramontana is a coast line much higher than the southern region of Menorca with large rock formations and spectacular cliffs like the Mola de Fornells. This rugged terrain holds the sea back, not letting it advance easily upon the land.
