"Sa Nitja"

“Sa Nitja. Gestión del Patrimonio Mediterráneo”, a Non-Profit Association. In 1993, the association "Sa Nitja", founded by a multidisciplinar team directed by the archaeologist Fernando Contreras, prepared the project to create the “Ecomuseum de Cap de Cavalleria" in the harbour of Sanitja . And since then, the association has carried out several activities to set the foundations of a new cultural initiative.

“Sa Nitja. Gestión del Patrimonio Mediterráneo” is a cultural association, registered in line with the Associations Law 191/1964 (passed on December 24), with the stated goals to protect, preserve, investigate and make known the cultural heritage. It scope of action is the territory of the Spanish State .

In brief, the association was founded in 1992, after the Fundació “La Caixa” awarded a grant to invigorate the archaeological heritage in the Roman city of Sanisera . In 1996, the European programme Leader II awarded the project a new grant to renovate the Santa Teresa building and prepare an exhibition room, so the public could know and enjoy the territory around Cavalleria by means of an Ecomuseum.

Recently in July of the 2005, the ecomuseum has obtained a new impulse with the aid of the program Culture 2000 of the European Union and that has been applauded and supported by the public institutions of Menorca. The exhibition of the ecomuseum has renewed.
