For 2009, the Ecomuseum of the Cap of Cavalleria in Menorca (Spain) has scheduled the continuance of the excavation of the Roman City of Sanisera from May until October. The excavation will be directed by Fernando Contreras, curator of the Ecomuseum.

The excavations produce a large amount of archaeological material from the classic era between the first century B.C. to the sixth century A.D. The majority of the archaeological material recovered is composed of pottery and fauna skeletal remains

The objective of this course is to give participants hands on, laboratory experience with archaeological material recovered from the excavations of Sanisera. The course will be separated into two areas of concentration: roman pottery and zooarchaeology. Participants will be given lectures on methodology and roman archaeology. Participants will also visit other archaeological sites on the island through included excursions. Classes are given in both English and Spanish.

The course runs 7 hours a day and is divided among lab work, exercises, classes, lectures and excursions. There are two days off every 7 days. The first 7 days will be dedicated to the study of the roman pottery. The Last 7 days will be dedicated to the study of fauna remains.

Directed at:
The course is open to any individual that would like to learn about (or further their knowledge) in archaeological laboratory work. Previous knowledge or experience is NOT required. However, we do recommend that participants have previous experience in excavation to better understand the process undergone before the laboratory work. We also strongly recommend that participants bring their own laptops.
