Viola Bay: The Access to Take the Peninsula. In one of the small bays at Viola we can still observe the remains of a stone path leading to the lighthouse. This road was used to build the lighthouse in the highest point of the peninsula of Cavalleria. The works started in 1854, and finished three years later.
The road from Viola Bay to the top of the peninsula permitted the transportation on donkeys of all the materials needed for the lighthouse construction, as well as all of the specific mechanisms for such a building, such as lenses, a bronze dome for the tower, fuel for the illumination system and enough food for the workers. At the present time, this narrow path is covered with plants that hardly let the visitor see the coblestones or any marks that help recognise the road.
